Extreme poverty – the big issues…
ONE tackles the big causes of extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa. We fight for gender equality, youth employment, quality education, access to health services and much more. The issues that ONE works on are included in 17 Global Goals agreed by world leaders to end poverty and fight inequality by 2030.

No Poverty
Fighting poverty is what we do. We believe that where you live shouldn’t determine whether you live. Poverty stunts the potential of nearly a billion people — and we want to change that. There’s been huge progress: Since 2000, the number of people living in extreme poverty has been cut in half. But that’s not enough. Our goal? End extreme poverty by 2030.

Zero Hunger
When you’re hungry, it’s hard to think about anything else — including school or work. That’s the daily reality for hundreds of millions of people. Ending hunger is completely possible, but it’s a challenge that needs to be tackled from a number of different directions. We’re fighting to make sure people get enough of the right food to not just survive, but thrive.

Good Health and Well-Being
Way too many people around the world – especially those in poverty – don’t have access to even basic healthcare. Diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria still claim millions of lives each year — despite being completely preventable. Life-changing progress is happening every day, but we need it to speed up. Let’s fight to get reliable healthcare and life-saving medicines and supplies to those who need them most.

Quality Education
Education is a powerful weapon in the fight against poverty. But too many kids aren’t getting the education they deserve. For example, more than 130 million girls are out of school right now. A world where every child goes to school is in sight — but we need to make sure world leaders consider that a priority.

Gender Equality
Poverty is sexist. There’s nowhere on earth where girls and women have the same opportunities as boys and men — but in the poorest countries, they face even more obstacles. We can’t get ahead if we leave half the population behind. Let’s break down the barriers holding girls and women back.

Affordable & Clean Energy
In areas without electricity, kids struggle to find light to do homework, families cook food over smoky open fires, hospitals can’t power life-saving equipment or refrigerate medicines, and businesses can’t operate at full capacity. Reliable access to energy can help people work their way out of poverty — but more than a billion people live without access to electricity. This has to change.

Decent Work and Economic Growth
Millions of young Africans who work still don’t earn enough to cover basic essentials. Young people could help strengthen Africa’s economy if employed in wage jobs, informal farms, or household micro-enterprises. In fact, they could drive Africa’s much-needed economic transformation!

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Infrastructure: It’s the roads, rails, and airports we need, as well as the water and internet that are crucial to our daily lives. We believe that investing in tech and infrastructure can unlock the potential of hundreds of millions of people in poverty.

Peace and Justice
We all know corruption is bad. But when it comes to governments, the effects of corruption can be devastating for the world’s poorest. It takes away money that could be spent on better clinics, schools, and roads. We have to shine a light on corruption: Let’s start by demanding more transparency from governments and companies.

Partnerships for the Goals
We’re making incredible progress in the fight against extreme poverty. But many of the poorest countries and people still don’t have near enough resources to end poverty for good. The world needs a new global partnership of governments, companies, and people like you—all actively working together to deliver real change.
