Statement on House Passage of Rescissions Package
WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives’ passage of a $9.4 billion rescissions package that would make significant cuts to US foreign assistance programs, including $900 million in cuts to Global Health funding used to combat infectious disease, including HIV/AIDS, around the world.
“It is concerning that the House approved these significant cuts without specific information about which programs and activities will be impacted and why these changes are necessary,” said Elizabeth Hoffman, Executive Director for North America at ONE.
“We urge the Senate to conduct basic due diligence and ensure that funds for critical, lifesaving programs – enacted by Congress less than three months ago – are preserved.”
