ONE statement on decision to terminate 83% of USAID contracts

WASHINGTON – The ONE Campaign released the following statement on Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s announcement that, after a six-week review, the US will terminate 83% of USAID’s aid and development programs. The remaining 17% will now operate within the State Department.

“Reviewing programs to ensure their efficiency and accountability is a worthwhile exercise, but this rushed and opaque assessment has caused considerable confusion and disruption to lifesaving humanitarian aid for weeks,” said Elizabeth Hoffman, Executive Director for North America at ONE.  “We urge the administration to provide a transparent accounting of its remaining program priorities for the American people to review.

“As Congress considers a Continuing Resolution for FY2025, ONE supports bipartisan congressional efforts to make lifesaving US foreign assistance more innovative and impactful and encourages Congressional leaders to preserve smart investments that make America and our partners safer, stronger and more prosperous.”
