ONE reacts to global response funding in COVID-19 relief bill

WASHINGTON — The ONE Campaign issued the below statement today on the emergency COVID-19 package, which contains $4 billion for Gavi, the international vaccine alliance, that will enable global access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines.

Tom Hart, North America executive director at The ONE Campaign:

“This funding is a vital and significant commitment to help get vaccines to lower-income countries around the world and will help shorten the lifespan of this pandemic. This welcome news is coupled with the continuing stark reality that more US leadership and support  — particularly for treatments, testing, and assistance to weather the economic shock  — are needed for a global response to COVID-19. If we don’t fight to end this pandemic everywhere, the virus will continue to cross borders and wreak havoc in the US and beyond. We urge Congress and the incoming Biden administration to continue to support global efforts and provide additional emergency funding as needed
