WASHINGTON — The ONE Campaign today applauded the global response funding that was included in the House’s COVID-19 emergency supplemental, a critical step towards reaching the resources needed in order to help the world’s most vulnerable navigate the health, economic and humanitarian impacts of COVID-19.

Earlier this week, over 175 global poverty and health advocates from ONE met virtually with hundreds of Congressional lawmakers to urge them to support funding for the global COVID-19 response.

“This significant funding will help the US fight COVID-19 globally and give low-income countries the resources they need to fight this once-in-a-generation pandemic. It’s in our domestic and global interest to extinguish this pandemic everywhere, fast, to shorten the lifespan and prevent further mutations.

“We know that more US leadership and support will be needed to bring a faster end to this crisis. The proposed $11.55 billion in this bill is a welcome step towards helping low-income countries weather the health, economic and humanitarian impacts of COVID-19. We urge the Senate to ensure this funding is included in the Senate’s version of the emergency supplemental and hope leaders will work together to establish a framework and timeline to distribute excess vaccine doses while simultaneously vaccinating the US’ domestic population.”

BACKGROUND: 

The House’s version of the emergency supplemental contains $11.55 billion for the US global response to COVID-19, including: 

• $800 million for Food For Peace
• $750 million for Centers for Disease Control global funding
• $10 billion under the international affairs title
