ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Manager will be a key member of ONE’s UK market team and will play a senior role within the matrix-based global communications network. They will be responsible for setting and overseeing communications strategies for high profile campaigns, developing ONE’s public and media facing messaging, delivering communications plans, and leading key projects. They will play a key role in developing new communications products and approaches that help reach new audiences and shape the debate on key issues.

This position is a great opportunity to help shape ONE’s communications agenda and UK specific media strategy and relationships. The role holder will have experience developing communications strategies, advising and supporting senior stakeholders, managing events and budgets, overseeing the development of publications and products, as well as operating at a senior level in a strategic communications or media function.

The Senior Media and Communications Manager will report to the UK Director – with dotted line reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Communications – and is based in London.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

UK Media – 50%

  • Monitor the media landscape and advise colleagues as to areas of opportunity and risk for ONE's priorities in the news.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with journalists and build the profile of ONE's policy priorities in targeted outlets and on platforms that will further ONE's advocacy objectives.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to influence and shape media debates on ONE's policy priorities, and to ensure that ONE responds to relevant news stories in a timely manner.
  • Identify creative and 'outside the box' ways to communicate our issues, including working with the global policy team to develop and pitch media savvy analysis and products.
  • Support the UK Director and ONE's senior leadership to be spokespeople for the organisation and build ONE's brand and profile in the UK.
  • Work with the Senior Campaigns Manager and Campaigns Officer to support ONE's activists to secure media coverage in local news outlets.
  • Support the campaigns team in delivering the social media strategy.

 

Strategic Communications – 50% 

  • Serve as a communications leader for the organization; develop and maintain external relationships and networks, maintain strong internal relationships to support and collaborate with colleagues and generate new ideas and communications approaches in communities of practice.
  • Collaborate with ONE teams, including market communicators and policy, and identify, plan and deliver communications activities and narratives around organizational advocacy priorities and high-profile organizational moments.
  • Work with the Senior Director to support strategic communications plans and efforts, including identifying key moments and events to support ONE’s brand and executive communications efforts with external partners and high-profile media outlets.
  • Create and deliver communications plans and products for reaching our audiences with key messages to provide clear messaging in support of ONE’s global priorities.
  • Manage competing deadlines and shifting priorities, proactive attitude to working across teams, excellent verbal, written and editorial skills.

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Key competence: Team Leadership and management skills

  • Sets clearly defined objectives for himself/herself and the team.
  • Identifies and organizes deployment of resources based on needs, taking into account changing circumstances.
  • Monitors team’s performance in meeting deadlines and milestones.

 

Skillset required:   

  • 8+ years’ relevant professional experience including 3+ years’ in a management or lead capacity 
  • Experience of building relationships with journalists and securing media coverage 
  • Experience of reputation management with strong stakeholder management skills 
  • Experience of co-creating, planning, and delivering communications strategies 
  • Experience of working directly with senior leaders  
  • Experience of government and policy communications 
  • Evidence of a strong and successful track record of leading effective communications campaigns and working across different channels to influence key audiences. 
  • Crisis communication and reputational management experience   
  • Works independently with minimal supervision 
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and working quickly and under pressure 
  • Results driven with a creative approach regarding campaigns and engagement strategies 
  • Awareness of what influences decision makers and how to achieve change 
  • Excellent social media skills  
  • People and performance management experience 

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluency in English required. Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.

 

COMPENSATION RANGE

GBP 57,000 –  GBP 63,000 per year

Pay range as posted the market salary range that ONE has adopted for this job level in the UK. This salary range is based on compensation survey data for similar organisations and is used to set pay internally at ONE. Where a new hire’s salary falls within this range is based on a variety of factors, including the budget available for this position.
