Tell European leaders to protect the poorest

Last year the world made an ambitious promise: to end extreme poverty by 2030. We can only make this happen if aid reaches the poorest people and the poorest countries.

Yet the proportion of aid to the poorest countries in the world is at its lowest level for 10 years.

We know that governments are facing tough funding decisions in the face of a range of international pressures - from the refugee crisis to terrorism. But delving into aid budgets is not the answer.

European governments must meet the needs of refugees and respect their rights, but it shouldn’t be the world’s poorest who foot the bill. Whilst some governments are showing leadership, others are forcing a deadly trade off by diverting life-saving aid away from the poorest countries to cover refugee costs at home.

ONE is joining forces with a group of incredible organisations including Save the Children, Oxfam, Global Citizen, CONCORD, BOND, Dóchas and Eurodad. Together we’re calling on leaders to make sure the choices they make on aid in the coming months don’t mean the poorest people lose out on an education or healthcare.

Tell European leaders to provide for refugees and ensure that aid is focused on fighting extreme poverty, prioritising the countries and people that have the least.

Dear European Leaders,

Please meet the needs of refugees arriving at our borders without doing so at the expense of the world's poorest. Make sure aid is focused on fighting extreme poverty and prioritises the countries and people that have the least.

Tell world leaders to step up the fight against AIDS, TB and Malaria

No one should die from a preventable and treatable disease, no matter where they live. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria has helped bend the curve of AIDS, saved more than 17 million lives since 2002, and could save millions more in the next three years. But it won’t happen unless world leaders urgently step up their support.

Girls and women in Africa are almost 3 times more likely to be living with HIV than boys and men, so are especially at risk if we don’t act fast.

Take Action

Stand with girls and women everywhere

Poverty is sexist, and we won’t end it unless world leaders act now to help girls and women reach their full potential. No matter how you cut it – socially, economically, legally – girls and women in the poorest countries get a raw deal.

It’s time to act. For the girl denied an education or forced into marriage. For the mother who risks death when she gives life. For the farmer prevented from owning the land she works on.
