Vote Your Future 2019

We engaged more than 9,000 young people in offline events in six geo-political zones across Nigeria and more than 67,000 Nigerians signed our Youth Declaration petition, which ONE supporters and staffers delivered to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The declaration outlined what matters most to them, with unemployment at the top of the list. This isn’t surprising, since around one-third of 15 to 35-year-olds can’t get work or can only find low-skilled jobs in Nigeria. Ending corruption, improving healthcare, access to education, and investment in agriculture were also high on the list.

Because of our petition, Vice President Osinbajo committed to creating more opportunities for young people over the next four years.

What we achieved

• ONE’s #VoteYourFuture campaign helped empower young people to create the future they want to see by understanding the issues that affect Nigeria and voting for a president based on their policies, not who they are.
• Because of our petition, Vice President Osinbajo committed to creating more opportunities for young people over the next four years and six presidential candidates also endorsed the declaration.

What we did

• Determined to make their voices heard, ONE Champions, volunteers, and a host of influential speakers took #VoteYourFuture on the road, leading panel discussions and debating policies across Nigeria.
• Tens of thousands of young people showed up at events and rallies across the country.
• Famous faces joined #VoteYourFuture, including media personality and host of Nigeria’s Big Brother Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, actress Bisola, singer Banky W, and journalist Laila Johnson-Salami.
• ONE partnered with TRACE, a Nigerian TV Channel, and the organisation Enough is Enough to produce a series of interviews with five of the presidential candidates who signed the Youth Declaration. Young Nigerians, including ONE Champions, quizzed the candidates about their policies.
