Working alongside our Youth Ambassador cohorts across the continent, we earned candidates’ trust and secured their commitment to champion global health, climate action, and economic opportunities for Africa in their mandate.
What We Did
- Recognizing that the European People’s Party (EPP) would be essential to securing a majority over the next five years, we strategically focused on engaging with EPP policy-makers, while continue building strong cross-party alliances, which enabled us to coalesce EPP supporters, including Chairs and Vice-Chairs of key committees and delegations.
- We drafted a ONE Vote EU pledge that was signed by 77 MEPs, who committed themselves to championing funding over their 5-year mandate on our issues.
- Engaged with existing champions to write a letter addressed to the new Budget and International Partnerships Commissioners (think EU-equivalent of Finance and Development Ministers).
Results
- 14 MEPs expressed support to co-sign our letter calling for a stronger long-term budget for EU external action that would help fund Gavi and the Global Fund.
- 20 MEPs reposted our social media posts or took the time to write their own, ensuring that the activism and engagement of our Youth Ambassadors is seen within EU decision-making circles!
- 30 MEPs or assistants met with Youth Ambassadors for their conversations in the European Parliament in just two days.
- 25+ amendments in the Development Committee to the European Parliament’s report on the next 7-year EU budget that reflect ONE’s priorities and boost visibility for our core asks on global health and development financing.
- Secured 77 champions in total, with at least one ally on 80% of our priority committees and delegations – including 2 Chairs, 8 Vice-Chairs and 9 political group coordinators.
