3 reasons why Africa needs a bigger seat at the global table

ONE

Sometimes when people talk about the world, they’re not actually talking about the whole world. But we have a few facts about a part of the world that’s really vital and vibrant — Africa.

Keep reading to find out.

70% of the population of sub-Saharan Africa is under the age of 30

The youngest population on Earth is in Africa. That means there are millions of young people with ideas, innovations, and the potential to drive economies. Those are the people that are gonna help shape and change the world we’re living in.

Over 60% of the world’s best solar capacity is in Africa

Africa could become a driver for global climate solutions. There’s a determination all across the continent to use Africa’s resources to benefit Africans who are still in need of electricity. Africa’s solar potential could also generate enough power to cover the continent, and share it with the world.

Almost one-fifth of the global population is African

Africa represents a good amount of the global population, but the UN Security Council still doesn’t have a permanent African member. And in the G20, there are only two African members: South Africa and the African Union, which was just admitted as a permanent member in September 2023. Meanwhile, Europe has six seats at the G20. And that makes sense, Europe is a big, vibrant economy. But so is Africa.
