In light of the recent massacre in el-Fasher, the ONE Campaign calls on the global community to urgently act to end the ongoing conflict in Sudan and prevent further civilian suffering.  

Sudan has been engulfed in violent conflict since April 2023, following a power struggle between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Recent reports confirm mass killings and atrocities in Darfur, including a devastating attack on the city of el-Fasher, leaving an estimated 250,000 people in peril. More than 150,000 people have already been killed, and approximately 12 million have been displaced, creating what the United Nations describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. 

“The situation in Sudan is catastrophic”, says Serah Makka, ONE’s Executive Director for Africa. “We are witnessing a genocide unfolding before our eyes. Civilians are being deliberately targeted, hospitals destroyed, and families driven from their homes. The world must act now to halt violence and prevent further suffering.  This must end. ” 

ONE’s teams in North America, Europe and Africa will galvanize public support and engage leaders and governments, urging them to: 

• secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire; 

• ensure respect for international law and the protection of civilians, especially women and children; 

• guarantee safe and unhindered humanitarian access; 

• provide adequate financial support for those affected. 

“While other conflicts around the world prompt urgent political action, the international community’s silence on Sudan grows louder with each passing day,” says Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, ONE’s CEO. “We often feel powerless and distant from this unfolding tragedy, but inaction is not an option! If we stay quiet, more innocent lives will continue to be lost and communities will be destroyed. We must speak up, with one voice, to demand protection and dignity for the people of Sudan.”
