Reaction: Reform’s proposed aid cuts would make Britain weaker, less prosperous and less safe
LONDON, UK – November 18, 2025 – Reform’s proposals to slash the UK’s international assistance budget even further are shortsighted, and undermine Britain’s national interest, the ONE Campaign has said.
Reacting to the proposed cuts, Adrian Lovett, UK Executive Director of the ONE Campaign, said:
“Slashing the aid budget in this way would mean abandoning the prospect of a safer, stronger, more hopeful Britain. It would mark a total retreat from global cooperation and put Britain’s national security at stake. Outbreaks of disease, conflict and extremism don’t stop at national borders. Our international assistance budget helps address those problems at an early stage, rather than waiting for them to overwhelm us, with far greater cost.
“UK international assistance is an expression of the best of British values, but it is not charity – it is a smart investment that ultimately benefits people here at home. Cutting it so severely would weaken the UK’s influence, reduce our ability to shape global outcomes and disrupt opportunities to build trading partners for British business for years to come.”
