The global anti-poverty organisation, The ONE Campaign, has issued the following statement following the announcement that Dr Sania Nishtar has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. Dr Nishtar will assume the role as of 18 March 2024.

Jenny Ottenhoff, Senior Policy Director at the ONE Campaign, said:

“We welcome Dr Sania Nishtar on her appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer of Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. With immunization rates around the world continuing to rebound after the pandemic, Dr Nishtar joins Gavi at a critical moment. Her experiences as an advocate and public servant will undoubtedly serve her well during this pivotal time. 

“Under her leadership, Gavi must continue to play a critical role in helping countries around the world to navigate current and future health emergencies and protecting children everywhere from preventable diseases by improving access to immunisation and other essential health services. 

“We look forward to working with Dr Nishtar in the months and years ahead to support Gavi’s lifesaving work, especially as we approach the replenishment conference this year.”
