ONE response to the European Parliament Budgets Committee vote on the revision of the EU’s 7-year budget

Brussels, 20th September 2023 – Today, the European Parliament Committee on Budgets voted on the mid-term revision of the EU’s long-term budget.

Emily Wigens, EU Director for The ONE Campaign, said: “The adoption of the European Parliament’s interim report highlights the continued ambition of MEPs to secure the much-needed additional funding needed to respond to today’s multiple global challenges. However, there is still a risk that the EU will need to make unnecessary trade-offs between the EU’s external priorities such as critical funding for Ukraine’s recovery and urgent action on climate and development.

The EU must find a way to do both, for example by ensuring that funding set aside for Ukraine in the EU’s main development instrument is covered by the new Ukraine Facility from 2024 onwards. We are therefore calling on Members of the European Parliament to further strengthen the report and adopt solutions to prevent competition between priorities during the plenary session next month”.
