ONE reacts to the outcome of the Gavi replenishment conference

Brussels, June 25, 2025 – On the occasion of the replenishment conference for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli, CEO of The ONE Campaign, issued the following statement:

“Gavi has vaccinated over a billion children in the past 25 years — a public health success story like no other. Now, it aims to reach the next half a billion children in just five years. Today’s pledges show there is strong global support for this mission — but it is clear that we urgently need to keep pushing on all fronts to keep this high on the agenda. We need all leaders to continue to build on today’s conference, otherwise we risk losing ground in the fight against deadly, preventable diseases.

An investment in Gavi is in every country’s self-interest: a healthy world is a safer, more stable world. This is an opportunity to invest in a healthier future for all of us.

President von der Leyen’s leadership in hosting the replenishment conference, at a time when many are stepping back, not up, demonstrates bold, values-driven leadership. Thanks to the EU’s leadership we’re making strides to ending preventable childhood diseases for everyone, so where you’re born doesn’t determine whether you live.

The United States has been Gavi’s largest supporter for decades — a proud legacy that has helped protect millions of children from deadly diseases. Congress recently reaffirmed that support by approving funding for Gavi this year. But the fact that the US President’s latest budget proposal included no funding for Gavi raises serious concerns. With key decisions still to come, ONE will continue to fight to ensure the U.S. stays at the forefront of global efforts to save lives through vaccines.”
