ONE Youth Ambassadors – part of ONE’s Global Activists programme – are a young and motivated team of volunteers who electrify our campaigns across Europe. The Youth Ambassador programmes provide more than 300 young activists across Europe with the means to act to end extreme poverty by campaigning within and beyond their communities, by amplifying ONE’s work with media, and by advocating with decision-makers at European, national and local levels.
In recent years, Youth Ambassadors have campaigned on a global response to COVID-19 that leaves no person or country behind, on national and EU budget processes, gender equality, education, nutrition, fair-trade coffee, transparency and support to organisations providing essential services to tackle preventable disease such as Gavi and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. In 2019, Youth Ambassadors in France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, and Ireland ran the ONE Vote 2019 Campaign, securing the support of over 200 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who committed using their mandate to help end extreme poverty.
They also work with the media to raise the profile of ONE’s campaigns, encourage the public to sign ONE petitions through online activity and local events, and carry out a variety of creative, ambitious and innovative actions in support of our campaigning and advocacy work. Internally, our Youth Ambassadors are crucial to advance ONE’s mission, being our best advisors and eyes in the field and scoping opportunities to bring attention to the topics we campaign for.
Since 2015, our Youth Ambassadors have:
- Held over 1,000 campaign events
- Garnered over 1,500 media hits in national or politically important local outlets
- Held more than 1,500 advocacy meetings with Heads of State, Ministers, Leaders of Parties, Development spokespersons, or other policy makers.
I am Anne, 23 years old and I study Global Communication: Politics and Society. I have been a ONE Youth Ambassador in Germany since 2019. Here, I have the chance to talk to political decision-makers – people who hold the power to decisively advance global justice, the end of extreme poverty and education for all people. To achieve this, development cooperation must also be at the top of voters’ agendas. At ONE, I have the opportunity to be part of a worldwide movement and to work on national and international campaigns in order to raise awareness for these important issues.
My name is Joshua. I’m 26 years old and from London. I’ve just finished my Masters in Architecture from Glasgow.
I am a profoundly impassioned designer with hopes of improving urban issues through design, advocacy and campaigning.
I joined ONE because I wanted to help and use my voice to get change and make the world a better place and shine a light on issues that may not be at the forefront of the public purview. Through the campaigning that I’ve done with ONE, I’ve influence change at a local and national level, and it proves no matter who you are, you can also use your voice to influence change.
Hi! i! My name is Veerle, I’m 23 years old, and I’m from the Netherlands. I study International Studies at Leiden University and I’m a Youth Ambassador for ONE. I became a Youth Ambassador because to me the global inequality that still exists today radiates unfairness and I want to do my part to make the world a fairer place. I think the fact that many still live in extreme poverty is a clear and painful demonstration of how far we still have to go and I’m proud to be part of an organisation that fights to help the world advance.
I am Bruna from Brazil. I am a 27-years-old Youth Ambassador for ONE in Belgium. I am an environmental scientist pursuing a second degree in Business & Marketing in Brussels.
I was born in a country where poverty and inequality are always on the rise, and since I was a child I understood that people have different opportunities depending on where they live. It is this injustice that drove me to try to change things and join the ONE Campaign. The YA Programme is everything I was looking for: It is a space where I engage with incredible people and together, we learn how to turn ideas into actions that bring about real change!
My name is Vittoria, I am 21 years old and I’m an Italian Youth Ambassador from Rome.
Equal opportunities and social justice are fundamental values in which I believe and that lead my actions. I believe that where you live should not determine whether you live, so I decided to become a ONE activist to change the things I cannot accept.
As a YA I had the chance to participate in several activities but what I loved the most was meeting local, national or European politicians. It is is a precious opportunity to raise our voices and make them heard by those who have the actual power and means to change our society. It is important to speak up because every single voice matters and together, we can achieve our objectives as ONE.
My name is Uzoma, I’m 19 years old and I’m from Nigeria. I am currently studying Law at the University of Birmingham.
I decided to join the Youth Ambassador programme in the UK because I believe that there is much work to be done in ensuring that everyone can live a dignified life. Playing an active part in making that difference means everything to me!
Taking over ONE UK’s Twitter account on the International Youth Day is a highlight of my time as a YA because it enabled me to amplify my voice on issues that affect a vulnerable part of our global population.
Hello, my name is Lilia, I am 21 and I live in the Parisian suburbs. It is my experiences from living in this area that influenced my choice of studies. I just obtained my Law Degree and am now starting a Master’s program in International Law. Having personally experienced injustice and having witnessed it too often pushed me to act for the preservation of human rights, which I am passionate about. I continue to do so on a daily basis as a French Youth Ambassador for ONE. The concretization of my ambition is rooted in my motivation to do my best to make the world a better place at my level.
