ONE responds to Elysee’s announcement on 2019 Global Fund replenishment conference: « France takes the lead in the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. »

Paris, 16th of May 2018 – The ONE Campaign welcomes France’s announcement that it will host the Global Fund replenishment conference in 2019.

This conference should enable the Global Fund to mobilise necessary funds to fight these killer diseases over the next three years and help end them by 2030.

Friederike Röder, France director of the ONE Campaign, said:

« “With this decision, Emmanuel Macron has confirmed that global health remains a priority for France, a country historically committed to this issue. As the second largest world donor for the Global Fund, France is sending a promising signal, while at the same time other countries are running the risk of stepping away from their responsibilities.

To date, the Global Fund partnership has saved 22 million lives. For this life saving work to continue, it must have a successful conference, which will  be judged by the amount of funds raised and the number of additional lives that could be saved.

France will have to pledge to meet the needs, and Emmanuel Macron will have to use his political capital to mobilise other donor countries and the private sector, but also to attract new contributors.”
