ONE Canada Global Activist Role Description

ONE fights for a more just world by demanding the investments needed to create economic opportunities and healthier lives in Africa. We’re looking for passionate individuals to join our ONE Canada Global Activist program. ONE will recruit, train, and support emerging leaders ready to champion our issues across Canada. This is your chance to make real change in your community and beyond, alongside a group of your fellow mission-driven ONE supporters.
In this role: If accepted, ONE Global Activists will get full access to a range of advocacy tools and hands-on support to build their own action plans with the ONE team. They will be expected to deliver a range of actions, including but not limited to:
- Take high impact action 1-2 times per month by writing letters, delivering petition signatures from ONE supporters to local MP offices, submitting Letters to the Editor, calling elected officials, and posting on social media.
- Sit down (virtually or in person) with your MP and/or their staff, under the mentorship of Campaigns Manager.
- Connect with ONE staff and activists from across the country on monthly virtual national training calls, global health and foreign assistance news, and skill-building sessions.
- Attend in-person events in your city, as able.
Training & requirements:
- A one-year commitment is required for this position and may be renewed annually thereafter.
- Attend monthly virtual national Global Activist meetings.
- Take 1-2 high impact actions per month (e.g. send an email to your MP).
- Attend multi-day event in Ottawa on Parliament Hill, date TBC.
- Open communication with Campaigns Manager.
What we are looking for:
- Passion for social justice and making lasting change.
- Interested in growing your knowledge or skills in politics, policy, global development, advocacy, activism, public speaking, and/or storytelling.
- Interest in engaging policymakers on issues of relevance.
- A commitment to stay engaged with the ONE Campaign throughout the tenure and a willingness to dedicate some time to raise awareness and mobilize different people to support ONE’s initiatives.

Annual Parliament Hill Fly-in
ONE organizes an annual in-person fly-in, bringing our global activists from across Canada to Parliament Hill in Ottawa for training, networking, and meetings with Members of Parliament. It’s an exciting opportunity for activists to experience the parliamentary system firsthand and put the skills and knowledge they’ve built through months of training into action.
