ONE Campaign calls for sustained diplomatic action to end Sudan’s humanitarian crisis

Ottawa, ON — The ONE Campaign welcomes the joint statement by Canada, its European partners and the European Union calling for stronger civilian protection, accountability and an end to external interference in Sudan.

The scale of Sudan’s humanitarian catastrophe cannot be overstated. Millions face hunger and displacement, while the destruction of hospitals and maternity services is putting women, newborns and children at even greater risk. Lifesaving humanitarian assistance remains essential, but aid alone cannot end this crisis.

Prime Minister Carney has spoken of the ability of middle powers like Canada to shape an international order grounded in human rights. Canada now has an opportunity to put that leadership into action. ONE calls on Canada to convene an international conference in Ottawa, bringing together the parties to Sudan’s conflict and the external actors involved, with the goal of launching negotiations toward a lasting diplomatic solution.

Ending Sudan’s suffering requires sustained diplomatic engagement, an end to the external support fueling the war, unhindered humanitarian access and accountability for atrocities. The international community must match its humanitarian response with the diplomatic resolve needed to bring this devastating conflict to an end.”
