Arlington, Texas — <\/strong>On behalf of the <\/strong>156,581 Texas members of the ONE Campaign, ONE congratulated Arlington Mayor Dr. Robert Cluck for proclaiming Arlington a “City of ONE” today. Arlington joins 93 cities, 10 states and two colleges across the United States as “Cities, States and Colleges of ONE” in support of the fight against global disease and extreme poverty. Austin, Dallas, Granbury, Hudson Oaks, San Antonio and Weatherford are also “Cities of ONE”.<\/p>\n

“Mayor Cluck took a historic step by proclaiming Arlington a City of ONE,” said Jeremy Lane, <\/strong>the Ft. Worth ONE member <\/strong>who led the effort to obtain the proclamation. <\/strong>“Arlington joins other cities in Texas as a voice of hope for those across the world living in extreme poverty, and I hope citizens and leaders across the state will take notice and follow the Mayor’s example.”<\/p>\n

Mayor Cluck’s declaration comes on the heels of the high-profile launch of ONE Vote ’08 last week. ONE Vote ’08 is an unprecedented, high energy, non-partisan campaign to save lives and secure America’s future by energizing presidential candidates and ONE’s 2.4 million members to make the fight against global extreme poverty a key foreign policy issue in the 2008 presidential election. ONE Vote ’08 co-chairs, Senators Frist and Daschle, were joined by faith leaders, celebrity supporters and ONE members across the country as they talked about the importance of making these issues part of the discussion during the 2008 presidential election.<\/p>\n

“Jeremy is a father, husband, full-time employee and student at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Forth Worth, and he is an amazing example of the power a single member of ONE has to impact the lives of people around the world,” said Kimberly Cadena, spokesperson for the ONE Campaign<\/strong>. “Lane helped make Arlington, Granbury, Hudson Oaks and Weatherford “Cities of ONE”. From sponsoring a child in Sri Lanka to gathering “City of ONE” proclamations, Lane demonstrates to Americans how the fight against global poverty must begin right here at home.”<\/p>\n

ONE is a campaign by Americans to rally Americans to help end poverty and promote health in Africa and elsewhere in the world’s poorest countries. ONE is working to help save 15,000 lives a day, prevent the deaths of 5.4 million children, provide free access to primary education for out-of-school children and deliver access to clean water for 450 million people around the world.<\/p>\n

ONE members ask America’s leaders to do even more to lead the world in bringing hope and opportunity to the world’s poorest people. Through ONE.org and work on the ground in communities, colleges and churches across the U.S., ONE’s 2.4 million members ask elected leaders and candidates to raise awareness of and increase efforts to fight global disease and extreme poverty.<\/p>\n
