{"id":52668,"date":"2008-09-24T17:38:09","date_gmt":"2008-09-24T17:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/one.org\/us\/?post_type=one_press&amp;p=52668"},"modified":"2008-09-24T17:38:09","modified_gmt":"2008-09-24T17:38:09","slug":"new-bipartisan-legislation-takes-steps-to-fix-root-of-global-food-crisis","status":"publish","type":"one_press","link":"https:\/\/www.one.org\/us\/press\/new-bipartisan-legislation-takes-steps-to-fix-root-of-global-food-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"New Bipartisan Legislation Takes Steps to Fix Root of Global Food Crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C&#8230;.<\/strong>\u00a0It&#8217;s time to treat the root causes of hunger and poverty around the world, and legislation offered this week by U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, R-Ind., and Robert Casey, D-Penn., is a solid step toward that goal, the ONE Campaign said today.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement by Tom Hart, ONE&#8217;s Director of Government Relations, the global advocacy group urged Congressional support for the bipartisan legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This legislation is a smart step forward in what must be a global response to the food crisis.\u00a0 Too often, governments treat the immediate symptoms of problems, while the root causes remain unaddressed.\u00a0 We can and must provide food and assistance to those facing starvation, but we should also make contribute to agricultural productivity in these countries.\u00a0 That includes building the capacity for people in Africa and elsewhere to grow enough food to feed their families and increasing support for long-term rural development efforts.\u00a0 Put simply, the United States should help to provide people with the tools that they need to fend for themselves.\u00a0 When we take those steps, we begin to address the core of the food crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Lugar-Casey bill is a good approach, and ONE looks forward to working with the Senators to see it approved by Congress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The legislation, S. 3529, was introduced this week and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">###<\/p>\n<div class=\"buffer\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Bipartisan Legislation Takes Steps to Fix Root of Global Food Crisis<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","footnotes":""},"contributor":[],"class_list":["post-52668","one_press","type-one_press","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.1 (Yoast SEO v27.1.1) -
