WASHINGTON, D.C.\u00a0<\/strong>– On June ONE, ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History launched an unprecedented mobilization of Americans calling on President Bush to deliver a historic deal for the world’s poor at the Africa Summit of the G8 in July.<\/p>\n

ONE events in 20 states and the District of Columbia involving more than 150 local artists kicked off a month of grassroots, policy and celebrity events that will culminate in a massive send off rally for President Bush in Washington, D.C. on July ONE followed by simultaneous Live8 concerts in Philadelphia, London, Paris, Berlin and Rome on July 2.<\/p>\n

The concerts will be seen by more than a billion people over the Internet through AOL and on television, millions will come to all the shows, and hundreds of thousands of people will go to the G8 summit to reinforce the concert’s message: 8 men can save millions of lives.<\/p>\n

In early July, the Group of Eight (G8) will discuss the major social, political and economic conditions that contribute to extreme poverty. There are historic plans in place to beat poverty in Africa and the poorest countries. June represents an opportunity for Americans to support making these plans a reality.<\/p>\n

ONE is quite possibly the fastest growing movement in American history. More than half a million have joined with ONE since early April.<\/p>\n

June ONE events were held in: Anchorage, AK; Athens, OH; Boise, ID; Chicago, IL; Des Moines, IA; Hollywood, CA; Indianapolis, IN; Kansas City, MO; Louisville, KY; Nashville, TN; Olympia, WA; Phoenix, AZ; Portland, OR; St. Paul, MN; Seattle, WA; Sioux Falls, SD; Tucson, AZ; and Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n
