{"id":163271,"date":"2024-03-21T21:00:50","date_gmt":"2024-03-21T21:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.one.org\/us\/?post_type=one_press&#038;p=163271"},"modified":"2024-03-21T21:34:45","modified_gmt":"2024-03-21T21:34:45","slug":"one-statement-on-fy2024-foreign-assistance-funding-bill","status":"publish","type":"one_press","link":"https:\/\/www.one.org\/us\/press\/one-statement-on-fy2024-foreign-assistance-funding-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"ONE Statement on FY2024 Foreign Assistance Funding Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>WASHINGTON \u2013 The ONE Campaign released the following statement on the text of the final Fiscal Year 2024 State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill, which includes a 6% cut to the overall foreign assistance budget.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile we recognize the fiscal constraints at play, cutting the foreign assistance budget this significantly is a failure to meet a moment of global crisis,\u201d<strong> said Suzanne Granville, Executive Director for North America at the ONE Campaign<\/strong>. \u201cDisproportionately slashing funding for our overseas investments \u2013 which makes up less than 1% of the federal budget \u2013 is short-sighted and dangerous for our domestic and global priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are encouraged by increased resources to respond to conflicts and natural disasters. But, we are gravely concerned by deep cuts to core development accounts. It is critical we help those most in need, and that includes supporting our core economic and health investments that help break the cycles of crises we are facing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cAs Congress turns its attention to FY25, we urge them to first prioritize passing an emergency supplemental that adequately funds humanitarian and development assistance needs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appropriations bill also includes a provision reauthorizing the President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) for one year \u2013 through March 2025 \u2013 which signals continued US commitment to the fight against global HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are glad to see continued bipartisan support for PEPFAR,\u201d <strong>Granville continued<\/strong>. \u201cWe\u2019re especially grateful to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees, and House and Senate leadership for their dedication to a program that has saved 25 million lives and made measurable improvements in the lives of millions more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut PEPFAR has more lives to save.
