The ONE Campaign issued the below statement today welcoming the\u00a0news<\/a>\u00a0that the Biden administration will purchase 500 million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses that will be shared with the world.<\/p>\n

While wealthy countries continue ramping up vaccinations, less than\u00a01 percent<\/a>\u00a0of COVID-19 vaccine doses globally have been administered to people in low-income countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Biden administration\u2019s decision to purchase and donate additional COVID-19 vaccine doses is the kind of bold leadership that is needed to end this global pandemic. This action sends an incredibly powerful message about America\u2019s commitment to helping the world fight this pandemic and the immense power of US global leadership.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe won\u2019t end this global pandemic anywhere unless we beat it everywhere. Donating doses to COVAX will save lives, reduce the spread of variants, and help reopen the global economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe urge other G7 countries to follow the US\u2019 example and donate more doses to COVAX. If there was ever a time for global ambition and action to end the pandemic, it\u2019s now.\u201d<\/p>\n
