WASHINGTON \u2014\u00a0The ONE Campaign released the following statement applauding President Biden\u2019s speech at the State Department in which he articulated his vision for US foreign policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cStrong US leadership is essential to solving the world\u2019s biggest problems. Today\u2019s speech is a clear signal that the US will no longer be a passive spectator, but an active participant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Biden administration has already taken significant steps to reposition US leadership in global health, but we know more must be done. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the fault lines in our global health preparedness and it will require the US to rally the world together for a global response. One of the best ways leaders can show the US is committed to global leadership and ending COVID is by passing critical funding for the global response, which will bring a faster end to this pandemic at home and abroad.<\/p>\n

\u201cONE looks forward to working with both the Biden administration and bipartisan leaders in Congress to elevate the role of international development and position the US as a strong and steady global partner in solving the most important issues of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n

A few noteworthy lines from President Biden\u2019s speech today include:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve also re-engaged with the WHO. That way we can build better global preparedness to counter COVID-19 as well as detect and prevent future pandemics because there will be more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we invest in economic development of countries, we create new markets for our products and reduce the likelihood of instability, violence and mass migrations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we strengthen health systems in far regions of the world, we reduce the risk of future pandemics that could threaten our people and our economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
