WASHINGTON \u2013 To mark International Day of the Girl tomorrow, October 11th<\/sup>,\u00a0The ONE Campaign<\/a>, and award-winning creative agency\u00a0Don\u2019t Panic<\/a>, have joined forces to\u00a0release\u00a0a powerful new video\u00a0<\/span>\u2018When I Grow Up…\u2019<\/a>, to highlight the fact that millions of girls are denied the future of their choice because\u00a0poverty\u00a0is\u00a0sexist. Girls are asked the age-old question \u201cwhat are you going to be when you grow up\u201d? The answers begin as expected, but quickly turn to reflect the harsh reality for girls in the world\u2019s poorest countries.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The video\u00a0is\u00a0part of ONE\u2019s\u00a0Poverty\u00a0is\u00a0Sexist\u00a0campaign, which demands world leaders invest in the world\u2019s poorest women and girls, ensuring they are not left out of the global push for gender equality.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNo girl wants a future where she\u2019s denied an education or infected with HIV, but this\u00a0isthe reality for too many girls living in extreme\u00a0poverty,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>said Roxane Philson, Chief Marketing Officer at ONE.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cUntil these barriers are broken, millions of girls in the world\u2019s poorest countries are being denied the right to build the future they choose. This\u00a0cannot go on – sexism\u00a0is\u00a0unacceptable –\u00a0poverty\u00a0can make it a death sentence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, 340,000 girls and young women will be infected with HIV. Right now,\u00a0<\/strong>130 million girls are being denied an education. These are just some of the factors that are holding millions of girls and young women back, and stopping them from choosing their own future.<\/p>\n

After watching the video, viewers are asked to join the\u00a0Poverty\u00a0is\u00a0Sexist\u00a0campaign by signing the<\/span>\u00a0Poverty\u00a0is\u00a0Sexist\u00a0open letter<\/span><\/a>\u00a0– calling on world leaders to fight for a world where every girl has the chance to build the future she chooses.<\/p>\n
