ONE applauds support for life-changing global AIDS program<\/em><\/p>\n

WASHINGTON \u2014 Answering a question from Senator Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) during his confirmation hearing on Wednesday, President-elect Trump\u2019s nominee for secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, offered his support for PEPFAR \u2014 the President\u2019s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief \u2014 and talked about the importance of fighting malaria in Africa.<\/p>\n

ONE\u2019s executive director for North America, Tom Hart, said<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

“Rex Tillerson is right: our fights against AIDS and malaria are some of the most important and successful U.S. programs on the African continent. It has saved millions of lives, brought hope to hopeless communities, and earned us considerable goodwill.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate Mr. Tillerson\u2019s support for PEPFAR and efforts to combat malaria. We hope we can count on him to continue the United States\u2019 leadership in these fights.\u201d<\/p>\n
