ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Media and Communication Officer will report to the Francophone Africa Director. They will work closely with Africa and global Media colleagues to support the implementation of the ONE Francophone Africa Media and communication strategies linked to our priority campaigns. They will also manage ONE’s online and offline campaigns and communication in Francophone Africa and lead the day-to-day management of the French version of ONE.org/Africa.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter with at least 4+ years of experience in media and communication and a track record of delivering in a fast-paced environment. The candidate will have experience with both online and offline media tools using social and traditional media platforms. The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, project management experience, a demonstrable commitment to ONE’s mission, and a good presentation.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL
- Plan, develop and implement ONE Francophone Africa media, PR, internal, and external communications strategy in line with our strategic priorities.
- Develop, write, and distribute proactive, strategic, and tactical media releases concerning our agreed campaigns and advocacy priorities.
- Act as ONE’s primary liaison with Francophone media. Arrange media interviews, identify key internal and external (partners) spokespeople, and provide full briefings and reactive messages. Provide media releases, photography, statistics, and any other information upon request from Francophone media.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key Francophone media across Africa, identifying opportunities for meaningful engagement with them which creates profile and awareness of the ONE and its needs
- Monitor Francophone media coverage relating to ONE work in Africa. Review and maintain media databases to keep them up to date.
- Develop, manage, implement, and facilitate the public relations strategy for ONE Francophone Africa’s key events, projects, and activities.
- Be innovative and proactive in pitching story angles, creating the news, and publishing stories to champion our cause and raise our profile in a positive light.
- Administer, manage, and monitor ONE Francophone social & digital media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Linked In, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.), and accounts.
- Develop, manage, and produce Francophone Africa communication & publications according to required timelines, translate and proofread translations.
- Write and issue press releases and other written material to promote the activity of ONE in Francophone Africa, which may include stories, articles, reports, newsletters etc., in a variety of media
- Collaborate with the Africa marketing and campaigns teams to draft campaign messages and materials encouraging people to get involved, take action, grow membership, and improve engagement.
- Manage the French version of the ONE.org/Africa site
- Work with the Africa Digital Manager and wider Digital Team to ensure consistency between English and French versions of ONE.org/Africa
- Build pages, actions, and emails using WordPress and ONE’s online organizing and advocacy system and ActionKit
- Draft short-form copy for social channels and long-form copy for website content, blog, and email communications
- Work with Francophone colleagues to coordinate the creation of French copies and assets for use across Francophone countries
- Other duties as appropriate to the role
WHAT YOU BRING TO ONE
- Bachelor's degree in communications, PR, or marketing preferred.
- At least 4+ years of relevant professional experience and proven track record in a similar role
- Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and experience in the design and execution of marketing, community actions, and public relations activities
- The ability to write engaging content across all styles & genres, including media & PR releases, social media posts, website content, promotional material, strategic reports, etc.
- Exceptional communication and people skills – you'll prove yourself a wordsmith, a good listener, and can connect with a wide range of people.
- Ability to manage and implement multiple projects and deadlines at the same time
- Strong creative skills
- Digital savvy with the ability to create, develop and implement communication strategies for our Francophone website
- Excellent computer skills in all Microsoft Office packages
- The ability to use Canvas, MailChimp, Survey Monkey, Campaign Monitor, Photoshop, InDesign, and similar products would be an advantage.
- Excellent writing and editing skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Hybrid workplace environment with the option to work @office or @flex. Must be available to work in-office at least 2-3 days/week. Business needs and team schedules may dictate specific days per week you need to work in the office.
