What is Red Nose Day?

Red Nose Day is a fundraising campaign run by the non-profit organization Comic Relief Inc. that has raised over $1 BILLION for children and communities in need over the last 25 years. In the UK, it’s become a cultural phenomenon where people across the country come together to have fun, raise money, and change lives.

It launched here in the US last year, and now… it’s back!

That’s right: Red Nose Day returns this year on Thursday May 26, 2016. The day’s events will culminate in a two-hour live primetime TV special on NBC at 9 p.m. ET. The star-studded event will boast appearances from Elton John, Julia Roberts, Trevor Noah, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Connie Britton, Mandy Moore, Key & Peele, Sarah Silverman, Rose Byrne, Tracy Morgan, Adam Devine, Liam Neeson, Tyler Perry, and many more—including Jack Black, who went to Uganda last year with Red Nose Day to shed light on the issue of children living in poverty.

This year, Black will provide a heartwarming update on Felix, a young boy he met in Uganda who had been living on the streets for three years. He will reveal what life is like for Felix today after being helped by a program that aims to change the lives of homeless kids.

Funds raised go to the Red Nose Day Fund, which distributes the money through programs to keep children and young people safe, healthy, and educated. Money raised in 2016 will be used to change the lives of kids who need it most, half in the US and half in some of the poorest communities around the world. Our favorite part? Red Nose Day’s 2016 charity partners include GAVI The Vaccine Alliance, Oxfam, Save the Children, Charity:Water, and The Global Fund!
