It all comes down to this! ONE night only at Madison Square Garden at U2’s eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour’s final show in New York City, two incredible ONE Volunteer Leaders will compete in a battle of canvassing for petition signatures for the ages!
We’ve almost reached the end of our summer out on the road with #ONEonTour. Throughout the tour, ONE volunteers have been engaging thousands of U2 fans to sign our petition in support of The BUILD Act, which would create new jobs in Africa and sustain economic development. When the tour wraps up, ONE volunteers will hand-deliver each and every signature to over 450 congressional offices around the country.
ONE volunteers have done great work this summer collecting more than 20,000 petition signatures, but two volunteers have made a big impact — Julie Barth and Michelle Shermer. These two women each gathered 200+ signatures over the course of a single show and now, at one of the tour’s final stops in the US, these two passionate volunteers will go head-to-head in a friendly competition to see who can get the most signatures.
Meet the contenders:
Julie, the ONE Congressional District Leader (CDL) for Massachusetts’ 3rd District, has made great contributions to her district as a volunteer. Brian Sweeney, her Regional Field Director, knows about her drive and dedication first-hand.
“Julie works very hard at maintaining and growing her volunteer leadership team in her local community,” says Sweeney. “Her work ethic and dedication to this organization as a volunteer leader is evident in everything she does, and hopefully will inspire others to join in the fight for equality and justice for all.”
Julie will be facing off against Michelle, ONE CDL for Washington’s 8th District. Michelle has left a huge impression on the members of her community, including her Representative, David Reichert.
“As rooted as she is in Wenatchee, WA – Michelle nonetheless manages to be a roving ambassador for ONE in her travels,” says her Regional Field Manager, Madeleine Philbin. “When a new energetic volunteer steps forward to become involved with ONE, it no longer comes as a surprise to learn that, somewhere on their journey, was an encounter with Michelle Shermer.”
No matter which of these stellar volunteers becomes the signature collecting champion, we are grateful for their work in supporting the BUILD Act!
