Did you catch Bono and The Edge on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday talking about Poverty is Sexist and leading the audience in a sing-along?
Every night on the #U2eiTour, the band feature a video promoting ONE’s growing global movement to break down the barriers holding back the women and girls in the world’s poorest countries. The video is set to a powerful chorus of voices singing the iconic song ‘Women of the World’ by Ivor Cutler, popularized by Jim O’Rourke.
“WOMEN OF THE WORLD TAKE OVER
‘CAUSE IF YOU DON’T THE WORLD WILL COME TO AN END
AND IT WON’T TAKE LONG…”
Now, you have the chance to add your voice to the show and our call for change. All you need to do is record yourself singing the song and upload it to your favorite social media platform with #womenoftheworldtakeover.
On show days, the U2 team will be collecting voices and including them to add to the ‘choir’ for the show. You can watch and listen to the song below for inspiration, and then record your own version.
At ONE, we always say we’re not asking for your money – we’re asking for your voice. Our voices are always more powerful when we use them together – as a chorus, and as a united call for change.
Together, we can demand action on the most pressing injustices of our time. For 130 million girls out of school. For one billion women without access to a bank account. For 20,000 women who will become infected by HIV. None of us are equal until all of us are equal.
