Photos: Young change-makers in Liberia

Earlier this month, Blair Glencorse from Accountability Lab did an Instagram takeover for ONE while in Liberia! He visited with young change-makers in Liberia who are changing their societies in super creative ways.

We love how he captured each of these stories:

This is Janet Ricks, a member of @accountlab’s community mediation team in the low-income neighborhood of Logan Town, Monrovia. Janet has been helping to mediate disputes among her neighbors on everything from domestic violence to robbery. During #ebola, the number of cases went down as people were being careful, but she tells us they are increasing again now.

We caught up with Dorcas today and she’s doing amazingly well, working as an independent filmmaker and using film for social change. Hip Co, which emerged in the 1980s, blends hip hop with Liberian English. Born in the streets, the music industry in Liberia has always been inherently political, making it especially popular with young people who can relate to its catchy beats, African rhythms and its messages of struggle and change. #Repost from @accountlab –> This is the last of our week of posts of young change-makers in Liberia. Meet Ahmeh Kinney, co-founder of Students Making a Radical Transformation (SMART) Liberia. He’s a junior at the University of Liberia and with some friends is working to support social entrepreneurship and civic awareness across the country. His group of volunteers has also been leading a campaign called “Wait more small, yah” (Wait a little longer) encouraging Ebola survivors to wait and avoid transmitting the virus through sexual contact. His hope is for all Liberians to have the opportunity to achieve their dreams. #liberia #student #changemaker #ebola #awareness
