Thanks to incredible support from around the world for Gavi, 5-6 million lives will be saved between 2016-2020.

This morning, in the cold Berlin drizzle, ONE members shouted their support for Gavi as leaders arrived. Swedish Development Minister Isabella Lövin stopped by to receive the ONE Gavi petition, Bill Gates gave the crowd a wave and the leaders arriving saw the support in the streets for this replenishment effort. The Global Alliance for vaccines and immunizations set an ambitious target of $7.5 billion for the 2016-2020 funding period, and until the very last moments it didn’t seem as if the full amount would be reached.

In the end, with lots of last-minute cajoling and lobbying, donors stepped up to deliver over $7.5 billion to give Gavi the potential for saving millions of lives between 2016 and 2020.

For the full read out of the day and to see which donors stepped up see our Health Policy Director, Erin Hohlfelder’s blog (complete with baby gifs!).
