After several months of ONE members advocating for world leaders to take action on Ebola, our second largest petition ever – with 575,470 signers – was delivered to all 3 affected country Heads of State today! ONE’s Global Health Policy Director, Erin Hohlfelder, had the privilege of presenting Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Guinean President Alpha Condé with the petition signed by over half a million people around the world that reads:
ONE members have your back and are joining your call to the international community to help end Ebola and rebuild health systems stronger than before.
It was a truly incredible moment, as the Presidents of all three affected countries came together to not only accept our petition, but to also say THANK YOU to all that ONE members have done in the fight to #EndEbola! We got calls from government officials wanting to make sure all of you knew that they were delivering on their promises. We also delivered your names straight to the UN, and to a high-level European meeting.
But we know the fight isn’t over. To truly honor those we lost, we must rebuild stronger – supporting sustainable plans for more health workers and strengthening health systems around them. This is an enormous, yet essential, task for the world and there is no excuse for delay.
