There’s no doubt about it: ONE members are a unique and impressive group of people. Our activists are an extremely diverse group that represents nearly every country around the world. Needless to say, we love learning more about you!
Earlier this year, we sent out a survey to learn about our members, what you all have in common, and what drives you to act. Here are the three biggest lessons we learned:
1. ONE members are extremely passionate, and not just about ending extreme poverty.
In this year’s survey, we asked our members to tell us which issues most inspire them to take action. We learned that the top issue areas for ONE members include tackling climate change, increasing access to quality education, improving access to water and sanitation quality, and ending gender inequality.
While these were some common themes globally, answers varied based on where ONE members are living. For example, for ONE members in Nigeria, increasing access to quality education is the issue that most inspires them to act, while US members are most interested in ending hunger and promoting good nutrition.
We love that regardless of the responses, all of our members are united in the mission to end extreme poverty for all! We can’t end extreme poverty without working across a wide range of areas, meaning that all of your top issues are on our radar!
2. ONE members are optimistic about the future and the impact of our actions.
In a time of polarized politics and uncertainty, our members are still optimistic about the impact their actions can make in the fight against extreme poverty! An overwhelming 94% of survey respondents felt that their actions made a difference. This is great news because optimism is crucial in the fight against extreme poverty.
From contacting political representatives to volunteering at ONE events, or even just sharing our content online — the enthusiasm of our membership enables us to create monumental change. It shows decision makers that there is energy behind us, a movement of people willing to do whatever it takes to end extreme poverty.
3. ONE members are enthusiastic about encouraging others to join the fight against extreme poverty.
Survey takers responded strongly that they were likely to encourage their friends and family to join ONE, with only 12% of global respondents stating that they were not likely to encourage others to join. In Nigeria, 88% of members surveyed responded that were very likely to recommend ONE! We’re excited to have members that are so committed to helping us grow our movement!
Thank you to all our members who responded to this survey! We will keep your responses in mind as we continue work towards ending extreme poverty.
