In reaction, ONE’s North American Executive Director Tom Hart said, “It’s really been remarkable to see such strong, bipartisan support for Mark Green’s nomination these last few months, and it’s great to see that support translate into a unanimous Senate confirmation today. I think it’s emblematic not only of Ambassador Green’s clear qualifications, but of Congress’ appreciation for USAID’s work in the fight against extreme poverty.”

He continued:

“Ambassador Green will arrive at USAID with a tough, but important job waiting for him. USAID’s staff is already wrapping up proposals for policy reforms, structural reorganization, and the agency’s FY19 budget. At Secretary Tillerson’s urging, they’re even rewriting USAID’s mission statement. USAID needs a strong, politically appointed leader now who can be a vocal advocate for the work of this agency — fighting global poverty — inside the Administration and on the Hill. I’m glad that Ambassador Green has finally been confirmed.”

ONE and its 2.5 million American members are eager to work with Ambassador Green to win the fight against extreme poverty.
