No doubt about it, social media plays an important role in our day-to-day lives. It can be mindless and silly, or it can be used to advocate for social change and raise awareness for well-deserved causes, like #BringBackOurGirls or the ice bucket challenge. That’s why we’ve created this list of inspiring women who are using their online presence for the betterment of the world and who we think everybody needs to be following on social media:

We love that Katherine Stone’s twitter and facebook feeds highlight global mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding various mental health disorders.

Luvvie Ajayi’s social media accounts are funny, witty, and thought-provoking. One of the many reasons we luv Luvvie is because she is the co-founder of The Red Pump Project, a non-profit that raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls around the world. How awesome is that?!
