Mark your calendar: Women and agriculture Twitter chat

On Thursday, April 24 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET, 5 to 6 p.m. GMT, Half the Sky Movement will be hosting a Twitter chat with me as well as experts from Kiva and Heifer International to discuss how we can empower women in agriculture to lift 100 to 150 million people out of hunger.

I just got finished working on a report about some of the challenges women in agriculture face in the developing world, and I can’t wait to talk about it with you. From my research, I discovered that in Africa, women make up half of the agricultural workforce overall, and more than half in several countries. Yet these women, depending on where they’re from, produce up to 66 percent less per unit of land than men.

Ask me anything about the topic. I’m happy to answer your questions about:

– What these women farmers need to prosper. Fertilizer? Training?
– Examples of successful programs that have supported women farmers
– How agriculture production could lift 100 to 150 million people out of hunger

Tweet your questions to @ONECampaign with #womenagchat, no need to wait for the chat to start.
