This World AIDS Day, ONE members tried something different in Chicago – we got together over drinks to talk about the global fight against AIDS and take action by writing letters to our Illinois Senators Kirk and Durbin.
Writing letters is one of the most effective ways of getting your voice heard by your elected leaders. Every single handwritten letter is taken very seriously by members of Congress. They know that if you take the time to write to them about an issue, it must be very important to you.
For this World AIDS Day event, we partnered with Theory Bar in downtown Chicago and we even had a representative from Belvedere come and promote the Product (RED) Belvedere brand. Belvedere gives a percentage of the profits from each bottle of Product (RED) Belvedere sold to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria.
Chicago ONE volunteers Michelle and Jason did a great job with talking to people about the importance of taking action. They were able to get everyone to sign our AIDS petition and most people to write letters to Senators Kirk and Durbin! Impressive stuff for an event at a bar!
Overall great fun was had, quite a few letters were written and difference was made. That’s how we do it in Chicago!
