ONE members attended Rep. Chris Murphy’s last major rally before Election Day. Rep. Murphy is a three-term congressman from Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District and is currently the Democratic candidate for that state’s open Senate seat.
This rally was held at Hartford’s Union Station, and featured speakers such as Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy (who with his wife, First Lady Cathy Malloy, co-hosted ONE Vote’s Connecticut kick-off party at their official residence in August), US Sen. Richard Blumenthal, US Rep. Jim Larson, and former University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun.
After the event was over, we approached Rep. Murphy and thanked him for his support of international development in the House of Representatives and urged him one last time to continue supporting programs that fight extreme poverty and preventable disease if he is elected to the Senate.
He immediately recognized the ONE logo, commented on how he admires the organization, and thanked us for our work. We then handed him a ONE wristband and took the following picture with Connecticut ONE Member Meg Fanion. We also got a picture of Meg with Sen. Blumenthal and reiterated our message to him about the importance of supporting international development.
It was inspiring to see ONE members out in force and help solidify the message that Connecticut voters care about fighting poverty and disease around the world, especially so close to Election Day.
