As part of our bipartisan ONE Vote campaign, ONE members are on the campaign trail with candidates for office throughout the country urging them to make extreme poverty and global health foreign policy priorities.
I attended an event with Florida Senator Marco Rubio in Waukesha, Wisconsin today. He is campaigning in Wisconsin for Mitt Romney and the state’s Republican candidates for office this election season. Senator Rubio is a good friend of ONE and he has participated in some of our events in the past, including our World AIDS Day event with President Obama last December!
At the event, I wanted to give Senator Rubio a wristband, but wasn’t able to get close enough to the rope line to do it. Instead, I gave one of his staff members a ONE wristband at the end of the event and asked him to pass it on to the Senator. As I was walking back to my car I saw a small group of people gathered outside the back of the venue.
I was hoping Senator Rubio was still there so I walked over in time to see him get out of the building. He was greeting the people outside before entering his car. He saw me and said “You are with the ONE Campaign? I have my wristband on [as he pulled up his shirt sleeve to show me]! Thank you!”
I was happy to see that the Senator remembered ONE and that he had put on the wristband right away. I thanked him for this support and leadership and we took a photo.
It was great to see Senator Marco Rubio in person and thank him for the support he’s given ONE and the programs we care so deeply about.
