ONE responds to aid commitment in party manifestos

Today, the release of the Conservative Party Manifesto, following the release of Labour and the Liberal Democrats earlier this week, confirmed that three of the most prominent political parties have included the commitment to invest 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) in aid.

Kat Sladden, ONE’s Interim UK Director, said: “With the commitment in many of the party manifestos to invest 0.7% of GNI in aid, there is a broad political consensus on keeping our promises to those living in extreme poverty.

To truly be ‘Global Britain’ the UK must continue to lead in fighting preventable disease, helping those in crisis and making the world a fairer, more prosperous place for all.

“Whichever party emerges victorious on June 9th must keep to established international standards on aid, maintain an independent DFID and work with other like-minded countries who are equally committed to the fight against poverty. In this way the British public will know that our investment in aid continues to be focused on supporting the world’s poorest people.”
