Gender Equality

See all the Goals

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

No matter how you cut it – socially, economically, legally – girls and women in the poorest countries get a raw deal. Simply put, poverty is sexist and we won’t end it until girls and women everywhere are able to reach their full potential.

This goal is about the girl denied an education or forced into marriage. The mother who risks death when she gives life. The farmer prevented from owning the land she works on.

Making things more equal for girls and women in the poorest countries would also help end extreme poverty faster. That’s because when women rise out of poverty, they are more likely to take their families, communities and even whole countries with them.

She started Safe House, a place for girls to escape violence.

Stand as ONE

Take Action

World leaders have agreed to 17 Global Goals that would mean a better life for all of us. The Goals are a plan to build a world where children don't go to bed hungry, where girls get the same opportunity to thrive as boys, and where people don't die of preventable diseases. It's one of the most incredible to-do lists ever written - but now we need to turn words into action.

As long as poverty, injustice and gross inequality exist in our world, none of us can truly rest.

Nelson Mandela

Mandela's words represent what it means to be a ONE member and at the birth of these ambitious new goals, we will not rest until they are achieved. Stand with more than 9 million others and in Mandela's honour - pledge to use your voice. We know it has power to change lives and bring about a better world for all of us, as ONE.
