What you really need to be worried about this Friday the 13th

If you have ever watched any of the Friday the 13th films, this image will probably take you straight back to the moment you first saw Jason in his hockey mask jump out of the shadows. Terrifying.

But this Friday 13th, we’re taking on a different kind of masked menace: phantom firms

These secret companies hide the identity of the people who own them, giving corrupt politicians, drug traffickers and dodgy businesses the cover they need to launder money around the world.

It’s these companies that allow billions to be siphoned out of developing countries every year, money that is desperately needed to improve education, healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure.

Right now the UK government is considering proposals to crack down on phantom firms and require information about who owns and controls companies to be made public. It would be a great first step in our global campaign, and would encourage other countries to follow.
