Poverty is Sexist: Join the movement

Follow along as Billy — our UK Campaigns Manager — blogs about his experiences touring with U2 and bringing the fight against extreme poverty across Europe!

Last week, I sat down to write this post from the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam after an incredible first night in the Netherlands. Our fantastic volunteers persuaded over 1,000 U2 fans to join our Poverty is Sexist campaign – their energy is infectious!

ONE volunteers in Amsterdam

I’m just over halfway through the U2 eXPERIENCE & iNNOCENCE tour with ONE and I wanted to share (in numbers!) what we’ve been up to and what this surreal journey has been like!

17 — Number of shows U2 have played in Europe

6 — Number of Pastel de Belém or Nata (Portugese tarts) I devoured in Lisbon

425 — Number of passionate ONE volunteers who have joined us on the road

5 — Number of times I’ve slept through the night on the tour bus

6 —  Number of essential phrases I’ve learnt in German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, and Dutch (such as, hello, do you speak English please? I’m lost.)

14,465 — Number of amazing fans who have signed our Poverty is Sexist petition

Poverty is Sexist: Join the movement

Nowhere on earth do women have as many opportunities as men. Nowhere. But for girls and women in the poorest countries, that inequality is amplified.
Poverty is sexist, so I’m adding my voice to ONE’s global movement of more than 9 million people calling for change.
