Today, 164 UK MPs supported the International Development Bill at its second reading in Parliament. There is more to do, but this is as close as we’ve ever been to legislating on our generation-old commitment of investing just 0.7% of our national income in aid.
And it happened because you took action.
ONE members have been emailing, phoning and tweeting their MPs, asking them to be there to support the bill, as we needed 100 of them present to get the right result. Over 20,000 of you signed our petition and today’s incredible turn out shows that when we use our voices, MPs do listen.
This is not the end of the road, so we promise to keep you updated on what happens next. But for now, let’s celebrate that our politicians kept their promises to us and to the world’s poorest people.
