ONE Campaigns Manager Saira with ONE members in Seoul, South Korea.
I recently had the great pleasure of attending my friends’ wedding in Seoul, South Korea – huge congratulations to Miya and Phil! It was incredible. Everything about the trip exceeded my expectations, but nothing more so than the wonderful ONE members I met there.
Just before I left, I emailed our nearly 2,000 strong supporter base to see if anyone might spare 30 minutes to meet up and tell me more about themselves and why they support ONE. To be honest, I didn’t think anyone would reply, but I put a few wristbands in my suitcase just in case.
I couldn’t believe it when 8 people gave up their time on a Saturday to come and say hi. And not only that, came prepared with presentations, notes, information and plenty of inspiration too. They represented different ages and backgrounds, different hopes and passions, but there was one thing we all had in common – a belief that people have the power to change the world!
With world leaders from the 20 most powerful countries in the world about to meet in Australia this week, my new friends from the other side of the world will be invaluable to helping ensure that the country that went from aid recipient to aid donor in just 50 years will play a leading role in the fight against extreme poverty.
