A few weeks after the launch of 2017 Italian Youth Ambassadors program in Rome, ONE took over Milan!
On April 25th the Italian Ambassadors held an event that took place at Ostello Bello, a hostel which has become one of the most known locations among university students and young workers.
After a brief introduction to ONE’s campaigns and #GirlsCount, the night continued with an open-mic concert: ten emerging artists singing their songs and supporting our cause.
Ostello Bello was crowded! Not only were the people really interested in listening to our presentation of ONE’s campaigns at the beginning of the night, but they kept showing curiosity throughout the evening. People from all walks of life showed real interest in our campaigns, agreeing with us that educating a girl can educate a whole nation. They bombarded us with questions full of true and genuine enthusiasm towards the cause.
Other than the audiences openness and willingness to be involved in our campaigns, what surprised and amazed us was receiving proposals from journalists and young members of student societies who were interested in our work and willing to collaborate with us to spread the word and join the cause!
It was a night of singing, laughing and positivity, but also a night to raise awareness and understanding about how serious girls’ education is when it comes to making a concrete change in the world.
The feedback from the crowd was all very positive. Among the many we received, Riccardo, 20-year-old, said: “It’s been a very interesting evening thanks to ONE. I want to thank the Youth Ambassadors for putting under the spotlight an essential issue as female education. Keep bringing your campaigns around Milan and Italy because ONE deserves to be known and supported more and more in our country”.
There is no doubt that ONE, as the word suggests, brings the most diverse and varied people together uniting them by one purpose, one value, one belief: the place in which you are born does not have to determine what you will become!
This was clearly shared by all those who took part at our event, which happened to be on April 25th, Italy’s Liberation Day. We were there altogether to celebrate freedom: freedom to study, to live, to be.
The 2017 Youth Ambassadors are a great combination of ideas, bravery and vitality. We are here and not willing to stop!
