In just two months, we’ve convinced 122 newly elected Members of the European Parliament to sign our ONE VOTE 2014 pledge to end extreme poverty.
That’s great news, but there is still a lot of work to do! To reach the remaining MEPs, we’re organising a giant lobby day on Tuesday June 24th in Brussels. This will be the perfect opportunity for us to meet MEPs and convince them to sign up.
To catch their attention, we are creating a stunt to bring your tweets to the streets. The idea is simple: on the morning of the 24th, ONE’s Youth Ambassadors will gather in front of the European Commission carrying messages addressed to the new MEPs.
By adding a message, you can make sure that our representatives keep their promises to help the world’s poorest. And that’s why this is a great opportunity for you to make yourself heard.
Here’s how to get involved:
- Write a message (140 characters maximum) in your own words and language asking MEPs to sign the ONE VOTE 2014 pledge and commit to help end extreme poverty by 2030.
- Tweet your message with the hashtag #onesummit. If you don’t use Twitter, don’t worry, you can send your message to [email protected].
- We will print the best messages and they will be carried by our Youth Ambassadors across Brussels.
Be creative! If you need any help, here are some key messages you can use to write your message:
- The EU must keep its promise to collectively invest 0.7% of its Gross National Income (GNI) in development assistance
- The EU must step up investments in agriculture, particularly to support small-holder farmers
- The EU must continue to support life-saving health programs such as the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria and the GAVI Alliance.
- The EU must fulfil its pledge to help developing countries deliver energy access to 500 million citizens by 2030.
- The EU must do its part by ensuring that its own companies and practices are transparent and accountable in their dealings with developing countries, by passing laws that make this standard practice.
The deadline to send your message is Tuesday 10th June at 12:00 CET / 10:00 UTC/GMT.
