This week, 200 US ONE volunteers gathered in Washington D.C. for the 7th annual ONE Power Summit, for four days of training, policy briefings, and lots of fun culminating in a mass lobby day on Capitol Hill.
This year, ONE’s volunteer have really outdone themselves leaders and organised 230 meetings with members of Congress on Tuesday!
After days filled with awesome training, in-depth policy sessions & great speakers, not to mention a surprise visit by our co-founder, these incredible ONE activists were armed with all the tools they needed to be advocates in support of life-saving development programs.
For our lobby day, we asked Representatives to co-sponsor The Electrify Africa Act which will provide first-time access to electricity for 50 million people in sub-Saharan Africa by 2020 if passed
More than 437 calls and 3,186 tweets to Representatives came pouring in from ONE members around the country.
A great day of lobbying was capped off with a reception in the Capitol building, where Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA 39) who authored the bill thanked our leaders for their efforts in support of this important legislation. Several other Representatives also stopped by to thank our volunteers for their efforts throughout the year and to highlight how important their grassroots advocacy is to our cause.
I’ve been attending the ONE Power Summit for the past six years, and I can honestly say that our Hill Day is my absolute favorite day of the year. Walking the corridors of Congress through a sea of ONE members rocking their T-shirts and being bad-ass advocates in the fight against extreme poverty is an incredible experience, and I’m already counting down the days to next year’s summit.
Take a look at some of the photos from our ONE members on Lobby Day below:

Not in the States? Not a problem. We’re looking for 100 young activists from the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy to lead the fight against extreme poverty in their communities. Apply to be a Youth Ambassador this year.
